Halloween Shopping 2020: Goodwill Industries Tulsa

I’m so excited to be partnering with Goodwill Industries Tulsa this fall for a series of Halloween blog posts. Goodwill reached out to me to ask if I would showcase some of the awesome Halloween items they have in stock in their Halloween Zone along with some ideas on how you can get creative with thrifted items to celebrate Halloween 2020! I hope you’ll enjoy these posts and today’s first post – a little shopping adventure for “GOOD”!

I know that there is a lot of reluctance to shop during a pandemic, and even more so when it comes to shopping for secondhand items (did you know that Goodwill Tulsa also stocks NEW Halloween costume accessories so you can build an entire look without going anywhere else?!) – but it’s important to know that Goodwill is committed to keeping shoppers and employees safe during this time by:

  • Ensuring all donated goods are quarantined for 24 hours before heading to a retail store
  • Sanitizing all used shopping carts before reuse
  • Employees complete a health assessment each day upon arriving to work and wear PPE
  • Disinfecting all high-touch surfaces every two hours per CDC guidelines

Goodwill Tulsa does require shoppers to wear a mask while perusing the store and to follow 6-foot social distance markers at check-out and to be mindful of keeping a safe distance from other individuals while in the store.

I have always been a fan of shopping at Goodwill and for their mission and impact they have in my community. I’m always looking for ways to save money and remain stylish, find cool unique home décor, or look for DIY inspirations – while at the same time, making a difference. Goodwill supplies all of that – and more!

Here in the Tulsa area, when you donate to Goodwill you are providing jobs for over 500 individuals who receive, transport, process, sort and sell merchandise at 11 retail locations and who work in other departments. Just last year, donations here in my home city also kept more than 17 million of materials out of landfills in 2019! That is a HUGE impact on our environment!

But some folks do not realize that Goodwill Tulsa is much more than a thrift store – Goodwill also helps people find jobs through education and training programs. Goodwill Tulsa reinvests profits right back into the community by offering education, job training, job placement and case management services to individuals with disabilities or those facing other challenges to employment. There were 367 jobs filled in the Tulsa community from the Goodwill TulsaWorks Career Academy just last year.

I think it is incredible that they provide career services to those experiencing Barriers to employment in Tulsa including:

  • Disability
  • Insufficient education
  • Low-income and/or underemployment
  • Homelessness
  • Reentering the workforce

When you support and donate to Goodwill Tulsa you are making a difference in someone’s life! Your support through donating, shopping and investing in their mission helps to provide unimaginable opportunities!

Now that you know a little bit about Goodwill Tulsa, keep on reading to go on a shopping adventure with me at their Southwest Boulevard store for some scary good deals!

A Review of Hershey’s 2020 Halloween Candy

Some good news for 2020 – Hershey’s released some “new” Halloween candy! AND, you can find it on shelves now (I picked some up at my local Walgreen’s store).

Many of the new candies have familiar flavors with a spooky twist – which makes it more fun to eat in my opinion!

I tried the green marshmallow Witch’s Brew Kit-Kat  bars, the Cookies ‘n’ Creme Fangs and Reese’s Franken-Cups!

My thoughts on the candies are below…along with close up photos.

WARNING: prepare for a hunger for some tasty Halloween treats to set in while reading.

Halloween Shopping 2020: Walgreens

I was working on this post the day before my son arrived! I had planned to get it posted on his birthday – but that day had much more exciting plans! I’ll share our birth story in a different post.

I found myself visiting Walgreens to pick up photos for my son’s baby book that I was working on. I was pleasantly surprised to find Halloween on the shelves in early August during this quick visit that ultimately turned into a visit that required lots of Halloween candy that would accompany me home.

Although the display was sparse and shared an aisle with back-to-school supplies, it still was magical and full of fright! Keep scrolling to see their collection this year (which includes exclusive Nightmare Before Christmas items just for Walgreens!).

Halloween Shopping 2020: Old Time Pottery

It’s Halloween in July at my favorite home decor store, Old Time Pottery!  Halloween shopping certainly looks a lot different than it did last year, but I decided to mask up and take a peek inside my store (it was surprisingly not busy for a Sunday afternoon outing) while keeping my distance!

I was immediately greeted by walls and bins of pumpkins which made my heart soar! Spooky season is HERE!

As I perused the fall and Halloween decor offerings this year, I did notice there were some items that looked familiar to me – some of them were in stock last Halloween. You can take a stroll down memory lane and compare the collection to last year’s in my 2019 Old Time Pottery Halloween Shopping blog post.

I am not sure how much Halloween shopping I will be doing this year because I’ll be giving birth to my son in about 38 days (which is peak Halloween shopping season and decorating time!).

I’m glad I at least got to squeeze in a visit to OTP!  I hope you enjoy this early shopping trip and that it brings you some Halloween cheer if you’re unable to venture out during this scary time.

You better not pout, and you better not cry because you can celebrate Halloween all year with these gifts – just gotta make sure you’re on Santa’s “good” list and that Krampus hasn’t paid you a visit instead….

Halloween Travels: Harvest Festival and Pumpkin Nights at Silver Dollar City

I was so excited to go on a mini excursion to celebrate my favorite season of all! I went to visit the inaugural Pumpkin Nights at Silver Dollar City Amusement Park in Branson, MO this past weekend.

Branson is a quick three hour drive from where I live and I have lots of fun and fond memories going to Silver Dollar City with my family growing up. It was always a summer vacation spot for us, but I’ve never been to visit this late in the year. The last time I was there was in the summer when I had to have been about 11 or 12 years old.

Let me tell you something though about this trip – the fall foliage driving through the Ozarks this time of year is absolutely magical. I was having an equally fun time soaking in all of the colors of the leaves as I did enjoying the masterfully carved pumpkins in the theme park.

If you would like to take a look at what the first ever Pumpkin Nights is like, keep on reading to see lots of photos!

When you think about Halloween does ice cream come to mind? Perhaps I’m the only one who has ice cream on the mind all the time! It’s the perfect treat for any time of year (for some reason I think I crave it more when it gets cold than when it is hot out!).

I was thrilled when I was asked to work with FatBoy Ice Cream to share some ways that you can spookify your ice cream treats this month!
