Becoming Mabel Pines from Gravity Falls

The bad news I got this fall was that my braces will have to stay on a little longer than I had anticipated – but the good news is that I can pull off a Mabel Pines costume this fall without any problem!

Mabel is the brace-faced twin sister to Dipper Pines on the Disney series, Gravity Falls.  I love the paranormal and supernatural adventures that ensue during Mabel and Dipper’s visits with their Great Uncle (Grunkle) Stan. They also help to run his tourist trap “Mystery Shack” – with a plot line like this you know that it is full of spooky fun for all ages (my all-time favorite episode is “Summerween!”).

Keep reading to see how I decided to make the most of having adult braces during Halloween by becoming Mabel Pines!

Becoming Fiona Applesauce from Bob’s Burgers

I love Bob’s Burgers on Fox! It’s always been one of my favorite shows and the humor is always spot on. I love it so much so,  that I decided I had to copy Gene Belcher’s Halloween costume he made this year.

In the Halloween episode, season 10, episode 4 (aired on Oct. 20, 2019), the Belcher kids line up and show off their costumes and I lost it when Gene presented himself as “Fiona Applesauce – Fiona Apple’s saucy aunt.”

I was surprised at the end of the recent episode because it actually features Fiona Apple singing the closing credits. Check out this Pitchfork article to see a photo of Gene’s Fiona Applesauce costume I was inspired to create and to learn more about Fiona apple’s special song for the Halloween episode.

I adore Fiona Apple’s music, so I knew I would equally love being her saucy aunt for Halloween.

DIY No Sew Toilet Paper Roll Pumpkins

I LOVE simple, easy and inexpensive Halloween crafts. When I saw these toilet paper fabric pumpkins sprouting up on Pinterest I knew I had to give them a try because it screamed simple, easy and inexpensive!

I also  am *sadly* not much of a sewer. I attempted to sew in the past in my high school home economics class which resulted in my teacher always having to re-do my work for me. Maybe some day I’ll try again, but for now I’ll enjoy the no sew lifestyle.

Is it simply too hot to go to the pumpkin patch? It sure is here in Oklahoma! Fear not Halloween friends, these pumpkins will not spoil in the heat and are MOSTLY all weather permitting. Enjoy pumpkins year-round and keep reading for steps to make the most durable gourd of all!

DIY Frankenstein Flower Pots

I love to fill my pots and planters around the front porch with mums as soon as they are in stock in the fall. Sometimes, this is a little premature because it’s still sweltering in Oklahoma in September and my poor little mums quickly turn into crunchy nuggets instead of feathery, bushy, fall delights.

To help pass the time so that I plant my mums at the right time, I’ve decided to create some cute Frankenstein pots to adorn my spooky porch. Last year my shared creation was my mesh Halloween wreath (I feel like I made three of them…) and this year I’ve decided to make a bunch of these jolly monsters for my mom, Grandma, and friends!

You truly do not need to be an expert painter to create a Frankenstein pot and you can make them however you want – he or she is your monster masterpiece!

If you’d like some inspiration on how to make one, keep on reading!

Old Time Pottery Decorated Halloween Tree

I was absolutely ecstatic to have been asked to collaborate with Old Time Pottery (the store with more) on my very first Halloween tree! I’ve been a fan of this store for many years. It first opened when I was in high school and suddenly closed. Several years ago they opened up a new location in Tulsa, OK and I visit there probably several times a month (much more than I should). I almost always take my mom along with me (she’s my shopping partner in crime) because I value her opinion when I’m shopping for my home.

Old Time Pottery offers a wide variety of home goods at the most reasonable prices – plus, their seasonal selection is always unique and full of unexpected treasures. The first time I visited Old Time Pottery during this Halloween season (check out my shopping trip here), I fell in love with the giant Halloween ornaments that lined the shelves (yes, Halloween season officially begins in July now and I’m totally OK with that!).

I’ve been yearning to create a Halloween tree for quite some time, and afterseeing those ornaments I was immediately inspired to deck my tree with gholish baubles from Old Time Pottery!

Creepy Baby Doll Head Candelabra

I have finally got to moving on my first Halloween craft project of the season! I wanted to do this last year but time escaped me and I couldn’t quite find exactly what I wanted at the time.

If you’re into the creepy baby doll theme, this DIY/craft inspiration is for you! I have been captivated by the creepy doll theme and wanted to take it to a whole new level by attaching doll heads to a candelabra to create a decorative art piece to haunt my home.

Joann Fabric Halloween Sneak Peek

I’m starting to see more Halloween in home decor and craft stores – and it’s only the beginning of July! I am okay with an early Halloween shopping season…if we keep moving up Christmas shopping earlier each year, it’s only fair that Halloween gets the same treatment. Right!?

I decided to stop into my local Joann Fabric and Crafts store to see what spooky delights await for me…I’ve seen some images and videos floating around where folks have already spotted some home decor in store, but my location was still trying purge the last of their Christmas decor. They need to sell it faster to make room for Halloween!

I thought I’d treat you to some sneak peaks at some of the gorgeous, whimsical and vintage inspired Halloween fabric I did see in store already! I hope this photo dump will help your mind churn up some ideas on what you might create this fall!

Stranger Things Inspired Cupcakes

Get ready to have your world turned UPSIDE DOWN this week as we are treated with a third season of Stranger Things!

I cannot think of a better way to celebrate 4th of Boo-ly than by joining our favorite adolescents from Hawkins Indiana solve the mysteries that abound in their small, sleepy, and positively 80’s town.

In honor of season three,  I decided to create a sweet treat for the occasion and YOU can make these Stranger Things inspired cupcakes for your watch party or summer cookout (Eleven would approve).

Summerween Jack-o-Melon

Next week will officially mark the first day of summer –  but for Halloweenheads, we celebrate “Summerween”, a season where we reflect back on and look forward to the spookiest season.  Stores are already sprinkling in fall products and decor, so it truly is the perfect time to prepare for Halloween to give yourself a break from the sweltering summer heat.

Here in Oklahoma we’ve had quite an unusual summer. I would normally find myself complaining and dreading mowing the lawn in our 100 degree plus June temperatures, but this summer has been unusually cool (I’m still wearing sweaters to the office!) with highs close to 80 and cool fall-like evenings and mornings. I’ll take it! Thanks, Oklahoma!

One way to celebrate Summerween is to hone your jack-o-lantern carving skills for the fall by carving a jack-o-melon! I was inspired to turn a summer treat into a cute and spooky character thanks to the Gravity Falls “Summerween” episode.
